Update 14.1: Acting Sus (+ plans for paid splatbooks)

Removed the second paragraph from the Romantic Disadvantage.
Long ago I inserted it because "oh, it's meaningless and maybe there'll be a few people who'll appreciate having this," but homebrew's probably better for it. At the time of writing I didn't have plans for a separate homebrew release, but that has since changed. If there's a need for this kind of Disadvantage, it should either be in Usonian Apocrypha or it shouldn't be in any of my PDFs period. My deepest apologies for slipping this into the core rulebook.

Since the setting officially allows for people to be playing Filled With Online in English, with English-speaking avatars and NPCs, (and Noah's native language probably isn't Japanese,) I do believe wholeheartedly that there is cause to change some aspects of the Japanese text (such as substituting washbasins being dropped onto people's heads with anvils), but this change didn't serve that purpose at all, it misrepresented what Filled With Online is, and ultimately I would like to trust that the players are capable of discussing with their group like reasonable adults. Also, my RAW for it was just kinda crap.

Weird apologetic screed aside, it has come to my attention that some features of the FoundryVTT system are broken (mainly, the ability to specify a roll that gets made when the item's icon is clicked, and that some errors may occur when calculating damage.) I will try to make the time to fix these errors.

Thus, I think the roadmap for the near future looks something like this:

  1. Update the FoundryVTT system with these bugfixes.
  2. Develop more homebrew for Usonian Apocrypha, make an early release that consists solely of the additional classes + races.
  3. Do more editing work on Alice in Virtual Land in preparation for releasing the first bits of paid content.
  4. Make maps. Oh my god, so many maps.
  5. Release Alice in Virtual Land and begin accepting payments for it and Usonian Apocrypha.
  6. Do more editing work on the Episode 1 Main Adventure. Put together a partial release (at least the first four Adventures.)

Now, at the time of writing, the Japanese team sells the Japanese splatbooks for the rough equivalent of $15. I, however, have access to a much larger audience in the anglosphere, itch.io users will probably more readily buy something cheaper, and by far making maps has been the part I've been having the most difficulty with. As such, I've had a certain thought process when it comes to how to price these releases. Currently, my plans are...

  • $5: PDF + low quality maps embedded in the PDF (for Usonian Apocrypha, this will be the Free tier.)
  • $10: PDF + high-quality maps as a separate download
  • $15: PDF + print-quality maps, and the source files for these maps released under a (currently undecided) license.

Between taxes and royalties, $5 seems like the lowest I can reasonably go. If this is still too high, I'll look at community copies as an option.
