Update 9, and Finishing Episode 1
Have you heard of the critically acclaimed VRMMORPG Filled With Online? In this free-to-play game you can defend a growing Deep Learning AI civilization with no restrictions on character level or playtime.
Yeah, I, uh, got into FFXIV. It's a fun game, but hey, also helps to know what modern MMORPG slang and communities are like since I'm, y'know, translating an RPG about an MMO.
At the time of this post, an early version of the Celestial Road content has just released (currently missing a map to go with it), providing an extra series of boss battles in addition to current Named Enemies and Demonarchs.
Following this come several more steps in translating Filled With Online.
Prewritten Adventure Content
You are lead by Annie the electronic fairy (who gets a randomized insult table that I've populated with a few terms I've learned during my FFXIV playtime, like calling you a grey-parser) to gather the allies and equipment necessary to take down the seven Demonarchs and free humanity from their reign of terror.
At the time of writing, the three episodes consist of the following;
Episode Name | Amount of Adventures |
---|---|
Episode 1 (Main Adventure) | 7 (+1 adventure only accessed through an alternate ending) |
Episode 1 (Side Adventures) | 8 |
Episode 2 | 2 (+3 unreleased/unfinished adventures) |
Episode 3 | 0 (but there'll definitely be some along the way.) |
Episode 2 Gameplay Content
Along with Episode 2 comes Demon Classes, a set of 14 racial classes which may be used for purposes such as generating new enemies. They're also available for players at a certain point, but you'll learn more about that when it happens. Note that demons can never be Cognizants.
Oh God, Not Maps
See, I have a bit of a conundrum. Positioning's mega-important here. It's the difference between that enemy Guts-wannabe either throwing a rock at you or cleaving you with his 10ft. sword. However, trying to maintain the exact same tile layout between both the original Japanese maps and my remakes, without compromising aesthetics, is a herculean task. It is for this reason that one of the options I'm considering is two different approaches to maps: aesthetics first for regular town areas, gameplay first for dungeons and combat maps in pre-written content. I'm also considering a nuclear option where I just drop everything in favor of just creating new maps that involve similar aesthetics and challenges, while having standardized dimensions that make for printer-friendly maps.
About the only thing I don't have immediately-ready assets for are good-looking buildings. I do have the means to prepare some, but it means these town areas are more involved than just "copy the grid and put stuff down lol".
Wait Did I Mention Seasonal Events Yet???
Recently the Japanese team hasn't been publishing any seasonal events due to their work on an RPG Maker game, but these are prewritten adventures so I want to do these at some point too.
I Hate Your Translation And I Must Tell The World
Reviews for this release will finally be enabled when the Episode 1 Main Adventure content, at minimum, is completed. Episodes 2 and 3 will be published as separate products due to how they radically alter the setting and touch upon the story content of the previous episodes. At the time of the next major update, I hope to discuss some of my plans for the Japanese team's paid splatbooks, as well as homebrew by yours truly.
